Administrative & Development Assistant (posted 6-25-14)
The Administrative & Development Assistant supports and sometimes leads a wide variety of office administrative functions, office management, and event planning, preparation, and execution, in support of EDC’s advocacy, accounting, administrative, fund development and programs. The Administrative & Development Assistant will receive shared supervision from the Communications Director and Development Director, and will meet weekly with EDC’s Administrative team.

Internships

Environmental Advocacy Internship
Individuals interested in pursuing careers in environmental law and advocacy, and that have excellent writing, communication and analytical skills, are sought for our Environmental Advocacy Internship.  Interns perform legal, policy and technical research and work with one primary supervisor, either an attorney or environmental analyst.  Internship responsibilities may also include drafting letters to agencies, working with client groups and testifying at public hearings.  Interns may apply for school credit and are expected to commit 10 hours per week.

Development Internship
The Development Internship is geared toward individuals wishing to become leaders in nonprofit fundraising and administration.  Development interns work under the supervision of EDC's administrative and development staff.  A development intern may focus on areas such as special events coordination, grant writing, major donor prospecting, and fund appeals.  Interns may apply for school credit and are expected to commit 10 hours per week.

Environmental Education and Outreach Internship
The Environmental Education and Outreach Internship seeks individuals looking to develop or strengthen skills related to community outreach and education, public relations or marketing, and organizing.  Depending on skill level, interns may perform duties including media relations, tabling and outreach at public events, community outreach on specific environmental issues, research pertaining to a specific EDC case or project, letter writing, and creation of marketing and informational products.  Interns may apply for school credit and are expected to commit 10 hours per week.

Applications are accepted year round, and placements made on a rolling basis. We ask for a comittment of 10 hours per week for two quarters or one semester.


Law Clerk Program

EDC regularly accepts qualified law students for its Law Clerk Program, providing an opportunity to practice public interest law at EDC’s Santa Barbara, California offices.

Responsibilities: Law clerks conduct legal research, draft memos and pleadings, and participate in administrative advocacy.  Supervising attorneys involve students in every aspect of actual cases, including client contact.  There may be an opportunity to observe court or other proceedings during a student’s tenure.

Compensation: 1) None when class credit is received. 2) Willing to aid in obtaining summer public interest work-study funding, school work study, or to discuss stipends. 3) Depending on availability, aid provided to secure free housing.
