Watersheds and Water Quality
All life depends on water for sustenance. Watersheds are crucial natural systems upon which local biodiversity and human water supply depend. Due to decades of using water bodies as dumping grounds, the quality of our fresh and ocean water has suffered, affecting not only our health, but also the survival of water-dwelling species. This deterioration of water quality can also be traced, in general, to a decline of environmental conditions in our watersheds.

The goals of EDC’s water quality and watershed protection efforts are to maintain, enhance and restore important watersheds for habitat and water quality protection. EDC works to achieve adequate protection for surface and groundwater quality for biological and human sustainability and ensure that human activities like water supply development, land use and agricultural activities, sewage treatment and waste disposal do not compromise the capacity of local watersheds to sustain human and non-human life.
