Environmental Groups ANnounce Landmark Agreement to Limit Oil Development and Protect Lands in SB County
The Environmental Defense CEnter (EDC), Get Oil Out! (GOO), and Citizens Planning Assoc. of SB (CPA) announced today that they have signed an historic and unprecedented agreement that will allow for development by Plains Exploration & Production Company (PXP) of the Tranquillon Ridege Oil and Gas Field off Lompoc, while curtailing the life of existing oil and gas operations offshore Lompoc and the gaviota Coast.

The Jim Ryerson Environmental Memorial Award was presented to Santa Barbara's Environmental Defense Center on Tuesday, February 19, which would have been Mr. Ryerson's 62nd birthday.

Harriet Miller Joins Environmental Defense Center Board
Former Santa Barbara Mayor and City Councilmember Harriet Miller has joined
the Board of Directors of the Environmental Defense Center (EDC). Ms. Miller served
as the Executive Director of the AARP in Washington D.C. and as the elected State
Superintendent of Education in Montana before moving to Santa Barbara in 1981.

Environmental Defense Center Names David Landecker as New Executive
Director
The Environmental Defense Center (EDC) announced today that it
has hired long-time community activist, businessman and attorney
David J. Landecker as its new Executive Director. Landecker is
a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and has been active
in environmental law and policy for more than thirty years, including
six years on EDC's Board of Directors in the 1990s.
