GROUPS RESOLVE LAWSUIT WITH
CITY OF GROVER BEACH REGARDING INDUSTRIAL PARK
Settlement Protects Adjacent Neighborhood and Reduces Impacts
on Ocean Views
GROVER BEACH, CA - The Northwest Grover Beach Neighborhood
Alliance (Alliance), represented by the Environmental Defense
Center, settled a lawsuit with the City of Grover Beach and the
Brad Forde Construction Company regarding an industrial park proposed
for Front Street in Grover Beach. The Alliance brought the lawsuit
due to concerns about the project's compliance with Grover Beach's
Local Coastal Plan (LCP), and specifically, impacts to public
views of the ocean, incompatible uses, parking, and traffic impacts
on adjacent residential streets.
As a result of the settlement, heights of buildings
will be lowered to reduce the impact on ocean views, and the allowed
uses within the industrial site will be restricted to alleviate
concerns related to noise, odor and dust. To avoid impacts on
surrounding neighborhoods, Forde has agreed to inform tenants
that they must park in the project parking lots and not in area
neighborhoods. The Alliance will continue to work with local residents
and the City Council to address remaining concerns about traffic
and safety.
"This settlement is in the best interests of
the community and the developer alike," said Babak Naficy,
attorney with the Environmental Defense Center. "It proves
that we do not need to sacrifice the safety of our neighborhoods
and precious views to accommodate development."
"Grover Beach is one of the last rough cut jewels of the
California Coast and we will strive to ensure it will realize
its full potential as a beautiful California coastal community,"
said Mike Wilson, President of the Alliance. "To this end,
the Alliance will remain vigilant in making sure that the City
complies with its mandates under their own Coastal Plan."
